#2 · Oct 5, 2008 Twice in the last month I have had architect/engineer reject propress due to possible turbulence and or reliance on an o-ring seal. If you look at a 2" that has been pressed , they are pretty gnarfed up looking. The other sizes aren't too awful bad. Still not pretty. I think more and more it will be rejected.

ProPress is only better because the pressing of the copper fitting against the copper pipe is a stronger and more reliable hold than the stainless teeth on the sharkbite. I added this comparison because I personally see ProPress as an improved sharkbite with an upfront cost of several thousand dollars. lol -----

I personally don't see why propress is considered ok and sharkbites aren't. They both have an o ring seal and a means of keeping the pipe from popping out of the fitting. I much prefer soldering. A proper solder joint will last forever, an o ring seal will fail eventually. Reply. 02-27-2019, 06:51 AM #9.

.you're gonna hate ProPress. Like SharkBite, they rely on o-rings to seal, but they are permanent connections that are swaged on copper pipe with a special tool. I call the picture below 'Leaving a Mess for the Next Guy to Deal With'. I assume this was done by a licensed plumber, since the ProPress tools cost several thousand dollars.
